FGI: A Living Legacy
FGI’s legacy is a storied one. Fashion Group International (FGI) was officially founded in 1930 by 17 visionary and accomplished women, including Carmel Snow, Helena Rubenstein, Elizabeth Arden, Edith Head, Claire McCardell, Nan Duskin, Eleanor Roosevelt, among others, who disrupted the system with a mission to create a professional community that connected, transcended, and uplifted the fashion industry and related fields.
Decades on, FGI boasts a global membership of over 5,000 with regional chapters around the globe—and continues to provide opportunities and resources for connection, mentorship, and career development for professionals at every stage of their career, shining a light of emerging talent and established leaders through FGI’s annual fundraising events, including FGI Night of Stars.
Past FGI Night of Stars honorees have included fashion luminaries such as Tommy Hilfiger, Issey Miyake, Giorgio Armani, and Donna Karan. The evening has also drawn high-profile presenters and special guests across fashion and culture, among them Meryl Streep, Kate Hudson, Viktor & Rolf, Grace Coddington, Martha Stewart, and Laverne Cox—underscoring the gala’s standing as a marquee New York event that unites industry leaders and mainstream cultural icons.
All proceeds will benefit the The Fashion Group Foundation’s mission to promote educational programming and funding devoted to the study of fashion and business, with initiatives such as the Rising Star Grants Fund, Mentorship, The Ruben and Isabel Toledo Scholarship at FIT, and more educational initiatives, grants, resources, and mentorship opportunities for fashion and related industry professionals and emerging talent.
