Kross Studio and Lucasfilm Ltd. have partnered once again to celebrate one of the most enigmatic characters in the Star Wars galaxy, offering a limited edition of 10 Boba Fett collector sets. Each comes complete with a numbered, manual wound Boba Fett-inspired central Tourbillon timepiece and a replica ship and watch display by EFX that captures Boba Fett’s famed starship in rich detail.
The bounty hunter’s famed ship is his home away from home, so fittingly, EFX has cleverly designed the replica ship to also serve as a watch holder and container for those times when the Kross Studio Boba Fett tourbillon is not on the wrist.
A Timepiece for the Galaxy’s Most Famous Bounty Hunter
One of high watchmakings supreme achievements, the central tourbillon is now also indelibly associated with Kross Studio. Here, the Swiss design studio and manufacture showcases the mechanical complication within a 45mm case of grade 5 titanium, coated with chocolate PVD. At its center, a miniature starship appears to alight on the tourbillon cage – styled as a landing platform.
Expert Craftsmanship and Incredible Detail Echo his Highly Equipped Starship
The tourbillons require extensive in-house CNC machining and assembly, with eight individual pieces required to craft a single dimiuitive firespray starship. Then, Kross Studio technicians commence assembly and finishing in their quest to faithfully reproduce the weathered appearance of Boba Fett’s ship as it appears in Bespin™ at Cloud City in the Star Wars film saga. Each unique ship required over 90 hours of meticulous engraving and hand painting to complete. The astounding, minute attention to detail underlines Kross Studio’s prowess as a leading Swiss manufacture.
Reading Time
For Kross Studio, a journey through time and space required a more creative reading of the hours and minutes, employing a unique peripheral format and planetary gear system that orbits 360 degrees around the tourbillon. A 12-factor gear ratio allows the planetary minutes system to empower the progression of the hours. In order to optimize the movement’s efficiency to the maximum, the hour and minute display system is fixed on two very wide, high-precision ball bearings. Once again, Kross Studio looks to Boba Fett’s iconic gear and attributes for design inspiration, rending the hour hand as Boba Fett’s jetpack and the minute hand as its rocket.
Where the dial is a study in clarity and symmetry, it boasts a complex, manual-wound central tourbillon movement composed of 220 distinct parts. Playful, compelling, complex, and fascinating, each timepiece in the 10-piece limited series was designed and assembled within the Kross Studio atelier in Gland, Switzerland.
No visible crown
Kross Studio extends the visual symmetry beyond the dial to the perfectly balanced case thanks to Kross Studio’s ingenious D-ring crown system, placed not in its traditional place on the case side but discreetly on the case back. The barrel’s mainspring is wound by lifting the D-ring on the case back and turning it like a key: a more intuitive and more efficient user experience than a traditional crown. Time-setting is just as simple, completed by pressing the “Time Set” push button at 3 o’clock while simultaneously turning the case back D-ring in either direction.The timepiece offers a maximum power reserve of five days.
Interchangeable straps
The case reveals yet more clever innovations with its quick-release strap buttons, invisible from the front but easily accessed on the underside of the case. This feature preserves the timepiece’s clean lines while allowing a quick strap change in mere moments. The timepiece comes delivered with three strap options, including a green polyamide strap (embossed with the pattern of Boba Fett’s chest armor), a chocolate color calf leather strap, and a black rubber strap. Each included strap has been reinforced with black rubber inlay to optimize durability and comfort.
A Collaboration with EFX
Kross Studio worked with EFX to create ten unique watch displays exclusively for the Boba Fett collector set. The company is known worldwide as an exceptional manufacturer of extremely high quality “screen accurate” limited edition prop replicas and collectibles from favorite films, television, video games and other entertainment media.
The iconic starship becomes a fitting display vessel for display and transport in this collector set, carrying the Boba Fett Tourbillon in its cockpit while on display as a collectible.
EFX produced these Boba Fett’s starship watch displays to scale, as seen in the iconic film “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back™”. The richly detailed ships are crafted of aluminum and an acrylic substructure, with select detail parts cast in resin. Each detail piece is individually cast from a master made from the same model kit parts used to make the screen used prop and then carefully finished and painted by hand. The parts of the EFX Boba Fett’s starship-inspired watch display were developed with a thorough review of the screen used prop.
The starship-inspired watch display comes affixed on a platform resembling a ship landing pad and made of wood in Kross Studio ateliers.
